BAY COUNTY, Fla. (WMBB) – On Saturday morning, Downtown Panama City was filled with colorful runners.

The local Panama City Church, Calvary held its 3rd annual Calvary for a Cause 5K color run and egg stroll.

Every year, the Calvary Church chooses a beneficiary for their Easter 5K’s. This year they chose the Panama City Rescue mission.

The rescue mission provides food and short-term housing opportunities for people in need. Calvary Pastor, Kyle Shoots says that the 5K raised a little more than $25,000 this year for the nonprofit.

“You know, finances are tight. You know, whether it’s inflation or the economy or whatever, I think people are tight with their pocketbooks”, Calvary Pastor Kyle Shoots said. And there’s a lot of people in need of their services. And we just we wanted to be a part of supporting what they do because we see the need for what they do is growing.”

Nearly 300 people participated in this event. The runners began their race with white shirts and crossed the finish line with pastels.

After the 5K, an Easter egg hunt was offered for kids ages 10 and younger.
