Arnold Boys Soccer honored with state proclamation

PANAMA CITY BEACH, Fla. (WMBB) – The Arnold boys soccer team was honored with a state proclamation from Florida Chief Financial Officer Jimmy Patronis on Monday morning.

The proclamation noted the Marlins’ historic season where they finished 22-1-1, won the Class 5A State Championship and finished as the highest-ranked boys soccer team in America.

CFO Patronis said the Arnold boys soccer team has represented the Panhandle and the entire state of Florida with pride.

“They need to know that the state of Florida is proud of them, Patronis said. “They need to know that there are people that acknowledge their talents, their success, what they have accomplished, and that we feel like they deserve an attaboy. And as I told the guys, I said, there are those freshmen that are walking around this campus right now that are looking up to you.”

The Marlins finished their historic season at the top of the MaxPreps national rankings, giving them the nod to claim the title as National Champions.

When all of the season calculations for the entire country are complete, Arnold might also be the highest-ranked team (rating-wise) since MaxPreps started following prep sports in 2002.

Arnold Head Boys Soccer Coach Jona Hammond said he and his team aren’t done breaking records and winning trophies.

“To be the highest-ever ranked national champions in Max Prep’s history, how do you go higher than that? Hammond said. “But I know these boys are competitors, I’m a competitor, and we want to keep winning, we want to add to it. We’re not satisfied with two. We want to go three. We’re going to enjoy this now. But when the next season comes, that was last year, time to win another one. So, that’s the plan, just to collect as many as we can.”

Since Coach Hammond took over the Marlins program eight years ago, the team has completed a 154-20-9 record.
