Bay District Schools driver education course registration opens next week

PANAMA CITY, FL. (WMBB) — Bay District School officials are offering a new service that makes it easier for students to get their driver’s licenses.

Students who want to register for driver education classes must have a valid Florida Learner Permit before the first day of class. Applicants enter a lottery to receive one of the limited slots.

Classes take place from June 10-27 and July 8-25 with no Friday classes. The morning option is from 7:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. The afternoon option is from noon until 4 p.m. The two locations are J.R. Arnold High School and Rutherford High School.

If you complete the class you’ll be able to skip a lot of red tape.

“Bay District school teachers have taken additional coursework and have been certified to teach driver’s ed. They also are instructors that are on the range, and undergo additional training through the DMV to become DELAP certified and to be able to deliver the driving test,” Simmons said.

Once the student passes the written and driving tests, they can go straight to the local D-M-V office and pick up their license. Driver’s Ed registration begins in 5 days. Parents and guardians can register their children through the parent portal from April 1 to 12.
