Big surprise for Big of the Year

PANAMA CITY, Fla. (WMBB) — On Wednesday night, a non-profit that helps mentor kids surprised one of its volunteers with its biggest award.

Big Brothers Big Sisters of Northwest Florida members were supposed to be holding a volunteer recruitment event on Wednesday.

They met at The Press in Downtown Panama City, then walked to History Class. Here, Jacqueline Crow was waiting to recruit.

Instead, they surprised her with the Virginia Thomas Big of the Year award.

Jacqueline has been a big sister to Naomi for 4 years.

They’ve run a 5k together!

She recently volunteered as a recruiter and this was supposed to be her first big recruitment event.

Jacqueline’s parents surprised her as well, traveling here to see her receive the award.

“She’s in the military. She’s a very busy person, but she always makes time for her little, they’ve been matched over four years now,” Senior Match Specialist Leanne Gaudet said. “She is consistent. She is loving. She’s always doing teachable moments. And she’s just really helped to make Naomi into who she is. And Naomi will give her credit for that.”

Big Brothers Big Sisters is always looking for volunteers.
