Local athletes forced to transfer with college set to close

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (WMBB) – Two Bay County natives, who play football for Birmingham Southern, will be forced to transfer after the college announced it is closing at the end of May.

Bay High School alum, Jawshawn Conerly, and Mosley High School alum, Cree Ross, both signed with Birmingham Southern last spring and spent their freshman seasons playing for the Panthers.

The college announced on Tuesday that it will close its doors on May 31, due to financial issues, where a proposed loan could not be passed through the Alabama Legislature.

Ross said on Tuesday that they will likely be able to finish out the academic semester and be put through a college fair in April to determine their next steps.


Four Mosley football players sign letters of intent

The Mosley alum also announced he is entering the transfer portal with three years of eligibility.

Birmingham Southern College is an NCAA Division III liberal arts school in Birmingham, Alabama.
