New art exhibit set to brighten Downtown Panama City

PANAMA CITY, Fla. (WMBB) – One of the most prestigious art competitions in the southeast is calling Panama City home for the next few weeks.

Opening night for the Southern Watercolor Society’s 47th annual Members Exhibition is this Friday, June 7th at the Panama City Center for the Arts.

The reception is free to attend for all who are interested and will go from 5 to 7 p.m.

Over 100 artists will have their work on display and it will all be judged by international award-winning artist Lynn Pratt.

Panama City Center for the Arts staff say having such a prominent competition in the heart of Downtown Panama City will only help further transform Bay County into a hub for art.

“This is very special to me and our journey to go from just a community art center to a fine art museum quality exhibition space,” said Bay Arts Alliance Executive Director Jayson Kretzer. “To have a prestigious exhibit like this choose the Panama City Center for the Arts as a location for three straight years is quite an honor.”

If you can’t make it out to the reception on Friday the gallery will be available for viewing Tuesdays through Saturdays until the end of July.

The center is open from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, Thursdays, and Saturdays, and from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. on Fridays.
