Panama City recognizes April as military child month

PANAMA CITY, Fla. (WMBB) – Active and retired military members play a large role in the Bay County community.

The city of Panama City wants to celebrate not only our service members but their children.

The city has chosen to recognize the month of April as the month of the military child.

In the city hall rotunda was decorated with purple.

The color symbolizes all branches of the military.

Service members and their children were invited to be recognized and appreciated for some of the difficulties that a military child has to go through.

“These are people that are sacrificing their lives and they’re sacrificing it for us folks here. And so it was very humbling to see these people and to see that community turned out also. So, it was a great experience and a real kudos to the military,” said Panama City Mayor Michael Rohan.

28 kids received a certificate with their name on it and got to enjoy some refreshments.

Parents got the chance to learn about some of the resources that are available in schools for their children.

Mayor Rohan said he hopes to make this a tradition and have more kids come by next year.
