Rep. Matt Gaetz shares his remarks on the shooting of Airman Roger Fortson

PANAMA CITY, Fla. (WMBB) – Florida Congressman Matt Gaetz shared a statement on Friday about the fatal shooting of an Airman killed by an Okaloosa deputy.

On May 3, 23-year-old Hurlburt Field U.S Air Force Senior Airman Roger Fortson was at his apartment when a deputy showed up for a disturbance call. The deputy fired several shots that killed Fortson.

Gaetz posted a heartfelt statement on social media platform X, that said:

“The killing of Airman Roger Fortson in my community continues to be a source of deep sadness. As the investigation continues I think 1 one thing is clear from the body cam and should be stated unequivocally: Roger did not deserve to die. He did nothing wrong. He is an American Patriot for serving in our military and should be remembered as such – with no stain on his reputation whatsoever. May God bring some peace to all who loved Roger as the important work ahead continues”.
