Star Avenue water resiliency construction starting soon

BAY COUNTY, Fla. (WMBB) — After the March 2022 wildfires, Bay County commissioners recognized the need for an adequate water supply along Star Avenue.

Two years later, commissioners have awarded a contract to C. W. Roberts Contracting for just under $5 million.

The company will install a 16-inch water main about 19,000 linear feet along the roadside. The work will include installing fire hydrants.

County officials said they want to add water resiliency and fire protection in an area that currently has none.

“Bay County is still growing, we’re still being discovered, and the rest of the country is still flocking our way and we want to make sure that we have adequate water for them, not only for drinking but also for fire protection, just make sure that we’re protected for the growth and for our children as they grow up here,” Bay County Commissioner Robert Carroll said.

Once construction begins, contractors should complete the work within 180 days.
