Walton County Sheriff’s Office closes all beach accesses east of County Road 283

WALTON COUNTY, Fla. (WMBB) — Walton County Sheriff’s deputies are not interested in any April Fools Day jokes, they are closing many beach accesses starting at 7 p.m. Monday.

All accesses from County Road 283 to the Bay County line will be closed until further notice.

Deputies said this is in anticipation of large crowds of teenagers from April 1-5. Walton County Sheriff’s deputies will be targeting large crowds of unaccompanied minors in hopes of preventing any large groups from causing issues on the sand.

“We’ve had several meetings with the public, and they know that we’re out here trying to maintain order and make sure everybody’s safe out here and they know that the kids come here, we’re just trying to minimize the gathering of the large crowds so everybody is safe and that there’s no criminal mischief or any loitering or anything like that,” Walton County Sheriff’s Office Lieutenant over special operations Scott Hogeboom said.

Deputies will patrol the beach accesses to make sure no minor goes onto the sand without adult supervision. This closure will not prevent families from visiting the beach.
