Washington County Sheriff’s charged a man with two counts of kidnapping

CHIPLEY, Fla. (WMBB) – A Vernon man was arrested after authorities said he kidnapped a mother and young son.

Deputies said they identified the suspect as 45-year-old, Tony Edward Peterson.

On March 29, at around 9:30 p.m., deputies said they received a distressed 9-11 hang-up call from a local motel. Once authorities arrived the woman’s room door was open but no one was inside. Investigators said the suspect had forcibly taken the mother and her young son from the room against their will, along with her phone. Peterson allegedly took the victims to a neighboring town where they escaped, authorities said.

Washington County Sheriff’s Office and the Florida Department of Corrections K9 team tracked Peterson to an address in Carryville, where he was arrested.

Washington County officials charged Peterson with two counts of kidnapping-false imprisonment and one count of obstructing justice.

Peterson was booked into the Washington County Jail.
